Hi All, despite having a really good run of 18 months smoke free, I have this week given vaping the flick and returned to smoking because its just too hard to vape for me now in Australia.

I am traveling every 2 weeks for work in Canberra and I have been put through the ringer flying, with carrying batteries in my checkin luggage causing me issues, and then flying with juice/tanks/batts in my carry on luggage also causing problems.

This week at my local drinking hole I was escorted outside to vape with the smokers.

Enough is enough, its easier to smoke. I have been forced to vape outside in the cold with smelly smokers at the airports and pubs so I may as well join them.

I will be trying to limit my smoking to less than 5/day, a far cry from my previous 50/day.

Thanks for all the support over the past 18 months.

That's really sad, and an indictment of Sarah Wishar and her ilk in Tobacco Control.
Do you mind if I put your story on Twitter?

Yes, understandable. Wishing you luck with sticking to the 5 a day thing, I tried it a few times.

Surprised you have had trouble flying with your vape gear....although you should never put the batteries in the checked in bags. Just flew to Europe and had zero issues.

    Australia is out of control.

Good luck Dnar, I hope you still pop in on the forum and keep us posted.

    Second thought.

We are advocates.....not forcing you to be one, but asking politely that you allow us to be ones.

Sorry to hear that, but I am just wondering... If this is your biggest issue:

I happen to be an (unfortunate) resident of that shithole. If you have a spare rig, I would be more than happy to hold on to it for you, along with any other kit you have. I can even drop it off/pick it up when you fly in/out if that makes it easier.

Just an offer, as a recent convert to vaping really is a shame to see someone "take a step in the wrong direction" so to speak ;)

So sorry to read this dnar - It seems as though you have made up your mind and it is totally understandable.
If you do decide to give vaping another go at some stage, there are some great new leak-proof tanks on the market (I have one) that might be more suitable for flying with.
Your story is powerful and I dont think you will be the only one making this decision. :(

I think it was a respectfully asked question. It is a public forum, anything written here could be shared by anyone here or read by anyone signed up. The fact that it was respectfully requested for permission to share it was a sign of the people who are part of here.
If I had the mental capacity to put fingers to kb I would put my fully story down and be happy to share it, it is everyone on earth sharing experience with everyone else that helps forward society overall.

Perhaps this was a bit premature, but I was compelled..

As an aside, I hope you will still vape when at home..

As for the ACT, I'm not sure if it is workable, but a small PO box in a non-premium or GPO location is only a little over $10 per month. (I'm thinking to have some separate gear for ACT, and simply put it in the PO box as you're leaving, ready for next time.)

That last part is for forums marked 'Members Only' (and presuming they are actually logged in). The My Story forum is open to be read by anyone on the internet (mods please correct me if that is wrong).

Gee, a good reminder to not use ones real name on forums, not sure I would have done that without asking first.

Thanks everyone, for now its just all too hard. I can carry a pack of smokes anywhere and everyone is happy.

The decision this week came as I was forced out with the smokers, I came back to my apartment smelling like cigarettes and thought, may as well smoke them at this rate. I have noticed a recent change in attitudes towards me as a vaper. As a smoker I am accepted as normal.

Oh, and I thought it was 18 months, its actually closer to 2.5 years (time flies!).

If push came to shove (e.g. legal action), I don't think it would be hard to get a person's real name & address. On a wider note, we should not be posting anything here that we'd not want to hear in evidence in a court.

Further, though I'd have asked in advance to post anything on a Members Only forum, it's not much more difficult to get access to them. It's not like VC requires an identity check for membership (nor should it).

The renormalisation of smoking through regulation of vaping.
I wonder if this will begin to trend in smoking stats, and how ANTZ will rationalise it.
Seems likeliest in the US, with Britain offering a fairly stark contrast
