Should work out to about 11/2 18650s, but with a much flatter discharge curve.

    Nice pictorial Laurie.

Can I ask - 1300 mAh in Lipo equals 1300 mAh in Li ion = same run times....?

Or is there something basic about this I'm not knowing?

Evolve is recommending that we stop thinking in mAh and start taking Watt Hours.

    A VTC5 2200mAh 3.7v is around 8 Watt Hours

This Gens Ace 1300mAh 11.1v is about 14.5 Watt Hours

The bit you're missing is it's 3 x the voltage.

Plus lipos have a flatter discharge curve, so they hold their voltage for longer, then drop off quickly.

    *sigh* Maybe...

I just about nearly have have a handle on making a kanthal coil that works with few watts thro it and now you and those fancy chip makers want me to relearn another set of things? Na. Not this week anyway! :)

    Ah.

I assume the chip you used is specific to this higher input voltage then. And would be useless with regular 18650 style batteries that push 4.2 volts (max) - unless, I s'pose, you ran three 18650 in series.

The thing about Watt hours, is they are consistent across multiple voltages, so you can compare 18650s with lipos for instance.

You are already familiar with watt hours (Wh) from your electricity bill except they are kilo Watt Hours kWh

    Wh = mAh x V / 1000

    VTC5 is 2200 x 3.7 / 1000 = 8.14

    My lipo is 1300 x 11.1 / 1000 = 14.43

Correct, the DNA200 will run on 3x 18650s

It also has a 2 x 18650 mode, with Wattage limited to 133W

Watt Hours are also good for gauging battery life. If my battery is 14Wh, I know for a fact that if I set to 10 Watts, I can push the button for 1.4 hours before the battery dies. Or 0.7 hours at 20W.............

    Ah. That logic seems reasonable.

But not for me - at least, not this week. :)

Id love to build one just like it, but with more room inside the box. Id fill the extra room with dirt and put an ant colony inside. That would look trippy!

But seriously that is impressive. Great work.
My biggest electrical accomplishment is keeping 2 x 18650's completely charged and ready use.
